digital folk culture

A collection of memes, reels, WhatsApp stickers, and other user-generated content created by residents of Lebanon during the 2026 war. Through satire and humor, these memes function as grassroots archive, a form of resistance, and a mirror of Lebanon’s ideological chaos. They respond to Israeli warnings and atrocities, document destruction, mock political elites, and capture the absurdity of daily life under bombardment. While memes are often dismissed as trivial entertainment, this archive argues they are a vital form of survival media. They are a way to cope, bear witness, and resist dehumanization in real time. As an archive, this collection does not claim to be complete or definitive. It is a step towards building a collection of online material created during war, in hopes of preserving fragments of how people went through these times.
